Skyman 1, posts months. Cartiers just do not retain their value, although that may not be material to you if you are looking to keep it for a long time. I planning to keep it forever.. But any reason why they don't retain their value? Are they not considered good watches? What other watches should I be looking at in this price range? I was considering a Breitling Navitimer.
No criticism of the watch nor the brand, but with a few notable exceptions Rolex being the obvious expensive watches, especially those from so-called "fashion" brands do not keep their value. Breitling are not particularly good either to be fair. If it were me, I'd be looking at used watches of the flavour you prefer. So are Cartier considered more of a fashion brand rather than a finw watch maker?

However if you wanted an option I would personally get a bigger diamond online and put it in a cartier inspired setting, then take your FI to Cartier and let her pick out an amazing band. Must she have a Cartier ring? Is she dead set on that and no other options? As you know shopping at Cartier or Tiffany's is a very expensive option. What I mean is that most people who come to PS, come to learn about diamonds, and get the best bang for their buck.
This means coming to the forum with a budget in mind, style of stone and setting, etc and letting the experts on the forum help you. We have alot of very smart people on this forum who can analyze cut, clarity, etc I am not one of them -lol.
