Wanting to look prolific? It reminds me of people who dress up to go to the beach, and they wear super big sunglasses so they get noticed. I guess I am old fashioned. It is common sense, not a look. Not to mention skin cancer. Some of us love plein air painting, have been doing it before the current big fad, will be doing it long after the fad has gone away.
To be honest I would rather not be noticed at all and just be allowed to get on with what I am doing. My painting hat of choice is all around floppy with a brim, it is also my hiking, kayaking, etc hat. On another thread recently I was ranting and complained about plein air painters with their Tilley brand name hats. The irony is that I own one. I mostly wear it as rain gear out on our small farm. When I paint plein air I usually wear a baseball cap.
I want to blend in or at least be as inconspicuous as possible. But I say wear whatever you want. Speak to me of summer, long winters longer than time can remember, Setting up of other roads, travel on in old accustomed ways.
Seriously, I get that sometimes a hat is warranted, but if you look at all of those photos out there of painters and their hats ……. Bring an umbrella though. Ian, I would love to.
